Individual Report

1. How is your understanding of the topic after doing the project? Understanding about interactive multimedia?

After involved in the project on “Celebrating Malaysia's Cultural Heritage”, I developed a deeper understanding about my country’s culture in the aspects of food, festivities, traditional games and broaden my views on the hidden culture aspect which I am not really heard of like chingay games. Furthermore, I also felt that the cultures of Malaysia are very unique and even some of the cultures only exists exclusively in Malaysia like Gawai Dayak, Rainforest World Music Festival, etc. Indeed I have getting developed fondness in exploring Malaysia culture through traveling more within Malaysia great places to broaden my view and experience the diversity of different cultures.

Throughout all the assignments such as E-wallpaper (Photoshop), Personal Website (Dreamweaver), and Animation of Introductory (Flash), and the final assignment I have involved in, indeed there are new and fresh experiences I have ever have by using the multimedia applications and tools. Although I did not able to learn deeply about the multimedia applications and tools in it due to my slow learning progress of myself (lack of self-learning instead rely on lectures and tutorials only) and busy study schedule, but all these lesson and tutorials have exposed me to the fundamental knowledge and information which indeed had help me to take the first step in these multimedia field. These interactive multimedia applications have been competency skills that people should possess in this fast growing technology and globalization world in order to expand their networking, connection, delivering ideas, knowledge, etc no matter in aspects of business, education, financial and etc. I believe I will continually upgrade my skills in it and by practice more and searching for useful guidance to gain more knowledge of it and to apply it in my future workforce or personal life.

2. What were the problems faced since Proposal 2? How did you/your team solve your group problems?

Basically, the problems faced since the Proposal 2 is the lack of knowledge and multimedia skills in the multimedia applications especially Flash in doing the creative and special effect for the website. But it has been solved through the guidance of our leader, Ah Teh in providing the useful and resourceful references’ links and clips for us to read, watch and learn. Besides that, Mdm. Lydia and Kak Nor also had taught us the functions of some multimedia tools and recommended some references links for us in tutorial class and online discussion board.

3. What would you do differently next time?

I will being more independently and dedicated in searching the references links and being consistently in practicing the multimedia tools in the Flash and the others such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Besides that, I will also take initiative in seeking advice and guidance from experienced lecturer, tutor and friends in this multimedia field. As “practice makes perfect”, I will take the right action promptly which I mentioned as above when I faced the problem.

4. How is your motivation level?

About the motivation level in this overall subject with the assignments and project, it is quite unpredictable as my motivation level is quite fluctuating all the way along the assignments. When I faced problems in figuring what suitable themes, ideas and functions of multimedia tools for my assignments and this project, I would get anxiety and being moody as I am mostly worry about due date of the assignments is coming soon and could not finished on time with good and creative works.

5. How was working with your group & group leader?

It is a great experience of working together with the group members and group leader, Ah teh. I am happy to meet a new group member and new friend as well who is Diyanah who I never met her before in my university life until we took this subject together. I also feel glad that we have elected a great leader, Ah teh who I have knew him for some time in university here. He is a competitive and good leader who is good in IT and multimedia stuff such as photoshooting, blogging, designing and etc. So it is the wisest choice of elected him as our group leader in this project to guide and lead us to the correct steps in doing this project.

6. How was it working on the project?

It is a fun and knowledgeable experience working on the project with the others. It helped me to improve my knowledge on the Malaysia’s culture and multimedia applications.

7. How were your teammates & Group leader?

All of my teammates are being friendly and co-operative with each other expect Aaron had disappear (quit) already from nowhere in the half progress of this project. We have been strategically assigned different tasks or topic in the project from Ah Teh. Ah Teh as the group leader has been very responsible and dedicated in this project. Without his guidance, I believe that I will have a tough time in learning the multimedia tools and doing the project. Hereby I want to thank Ah Teh for it, thanks Ah Teh.

8. Personal evaluation of your own effort and that of your team

I evaluate my effort level in this project as middle as I have been bit slow in learning the multimedia tools and applications and not able to submit on time my assigned part to leader on our agreed submission date to leader to check, amend and compile it. The others are doing quite well in the tasks and being co-operative. I can see that the others have putting their efforts in this project but the highest contributor and highest effort put in this project is still our leader, Ah Teh.

Final Project

This is the final assignment finalized output we have done. Ah Teh as our group leader has compiled all our works and integrated all in it in this website. This is my assigned part on Festivities. Hereby I would like to thank all of you for the guidance and advice on my assignments and this project as well.

At the end, a car will driving along the road with a ballon attached on its tail after the plane is arrived and finally the ballon will got broken due to the sumpit shooting on it and it will show the text about my name and short warmest greetings. The drawings of mine do not look so good and hope you all don't mind about it. Thanks ya.

Finalized E-Wallpaper

Above is my final E-wallpaper. Thanks!

90% of E-Wallpaper for FOM Open Day

This is my almost complete e-wallpaper. It has slightly different with my initial idea of putting the mascot and date on the space of the lady's hand. I thought of how to fulfill the much spaces at the middle, so then I decided used the photos with frames to fulfill it and also can symbolize the progress of education in MMU. I will see if there is any changes and idea needed to put in before the submission date. Please feel free to give comment and advices on my work, thanks. Thanks to ah bee and zhen yi on their comments and advices on my work.

E-Wallpaper Process

First Step: I take the brown colour background wallpaper which I found from search engine as my e-wallpaper by using move tool to grab it and attached to the A4 wallpaper’s background layer.

2nd Step: I use the move tool to drag the footstep picture from the picture I found and attached it onto the up right edge of the wallpaper. I use the transform function of scale by making it smaller than the original which is slightly bigger. Then I had use the drop shadow, outer glow and inner glow to make it slightly glowing effect on it.

3rd Step: After using the horizontal type tool by edited the contents of faculty of management open day and the date as well on the upper middle, I have used the drop shadow, outer glow and the color overlay on the “OPEN DAY” to make it as the main information of this event and less focused on the glowing effect on the “Faculty of Management” as I only used outer glow on it. Besides that, I had also use the move tool to drag the E-bee MMU and attached it on the left side of the words contents to make it as the mascot symbol welcoming the public to attend the event by through the waving hand. I dint change the mascot colour or putting any effect on it as I don’t want it to grab the main attention from the “OPEN DAY” itself.

4th Step: Here I had use the move tool and dragged the professional man and lady with formal wear and lady with the hand rise upward on each of the middle left and middle right to show something that I will attach in the following step. For the blending effects, I had used the outer glow effect on the professional man and inner glow effect on the lady.

5th Step: I had used the rectangle tool to make a horizontal box below the professional wear lady and man. In the middle of the box, I had used the move tool and drag the MMU logo to attach in the box. Of the box itself, I had used the dark brown grey colour on its background colour and had used the drop shadow, bevel and emboss “texture”, gradient overlay and stroke effect on it to make it as a more visible and solid layer than the wallpaper background.

6th Step: Here I had used the rectangular marquee tool to cut up the rectangle shape of the photo frame I needed and use the move tool to drag it out there and attach on the space above of the hand of the lady.

7th Step: After attached the photo frame on the wallpaper, then I had use the transform tool by scaling and rotating the photo frame and a mature father graduate with its daughter’s picture so that the graduate picture be fitted to the space between the spaces in the photo frame. This photo frame and the picture is to show the memorial and happy moment snapped and there is endless learning regardless of the age and border.

8th Step: Here I had used the duplicate layer function to have another two (2) same frame picture and I had attached the pictures of graduation and group study on these two (2) photo frame. I had also used the transform function of scaling and rotating to make the pictures fitted on the photo frame.

Final Step: Here I had used the horizontal type tool to edit my theme “Take the first step to make the difference” below the footsteps and the MMU website’s url below the horizontal box and that’s all I had done. Thanks to ah bee and zhen yi’s advices on my work. Thanks.

70% e-wallpaper & New background and Pictures Used

This is my 70% done of my e-wallpaper after some advices and comments from ah bee and my friend, seems like still need to put few pictures chained together with the 1st picture attach with the lady's hand there to fullfill the space at the middle. and for the horizantal blue box, i think of putting the mmu logo onto it rather than put middle above. i will put the mmu webiste link below the horizontal box. any suggestion or advice for the colour of the box and overall? thanks ya.

Project Charter - E-Wallpaper

Assignment Title: E-Wallpaper for FOM Open Day Dated: 21th March 2009

Project Started Date: 11 Feb 2009

Project Finished Date: 11 March 2009

Project Manager: Chai Yu Loon

E-mail: yu_loon86@yahoo.com

Website: http://yuloon86.blogspot.com/

Project's Objective
To learn the design skills in the Adobe Photoshop CS2 by creating a E-wallpaper for FOM open day to promote and create awareness to the public about Multimedia University's Faculty of Management Open Day event which dated 21th March 2009 which is coming soon and the courses offered.

Approach

It's take quite a long time for me to figure how should I make my idea looks attractive and not messy. For the backgroud, I have thought of putting black colour as my background colour. For my idea of putting a teenager steps or foots on the wallpaper and progress into a professional persons who wear formal, I have went to search in the google to find some pictures about the foots of teenager and i find some from the Levi's jeans advertisement as there are many pictures teenager wearing jeans. I am using these pics with the casual jeans wear to symbolize that they are still on the stage of their decision making progress for their future. I found one picture with foots of 2 persons wearing jeans(male & female) which i believe is equitable and suit for my theme "taking first step..." below is the picture i wanna use in my e-wallpaper and i will put it at the upper left edge as the picture as it already is and making the outline with glow colour to make it as attention attractive point. the foots of teenager picture is as below:

For the middle upper part of the wallpaper, I will put the MMU logo on it to represent the Multimedia University’s symbol. Below the MMU logo, I will put the ‘Faculty of Management Open Day” on it. And below the “Faculty of Management Open Day”, I will put my theme idea of “Take the first step to make the difference” on it. These all words I will make it into gold colour with outline glowing effect except the MMU logo which will remain in its original colour’ Blue and Red”. The mmu logo I will use is as below:

At the 2.5/3 space on the bottom left of the wallpaper, I will attach the pictures of a professional Chinese man on the left and foreigner lady right beside him who are wearing formal wear to symbolize the professionalism and multinational university. I will make it the outlines of these pictures with brighter white glow colour than the footsteps to show the result by stepping into MMU to seek tertiary education. Below are the pictures of the professional people which I will attach:

For the picture of the professional lady whose left hand is putting upward and seems looking at some interesting stuff on her hand, I will put the date of the FOM open day dated 31 March 2009 on the space of her hands to grab the attention of people on the happening date of this event. Besides, I will put the Ebee of MMU just right beside the date to symbolize the mascot and symbol of MMU to make it more interesting with the creative animation icon. Below is the picture of Ebee MMU which I will use:

At the 0.5/3 space on the bottom of the wallpaper, I will attach a long and horizontal box below the professional people’s picture which I will put the courses offered by FOM in this box. I will make it the box in red colour as being a contrast to the black colour background. I will also put the ‘contact us’ or enquiries details on the right bottom edge on the wallpaper.

Milestone
16 Feb – March 5 2009
During this period, I have been thinking and thinking of the idea and theme which I can use it in my e-wallpaper. After some time, the idea just come out after I read my financial planning book about the specific statements. I have decided to use the theme “Take the First Step to Make the Difference” in my wallpaper. Then I sketched up the idea on a paper. So after decided on the theme and sketch, I have searched the relevant pictures based on my theme through the google search engine and found some. I have watched through some of the tutorial video clips given by Ms. Lydia on the skills in using the Adobe Photoshop CS2. Although I had watched the video clips and attending the tutorial, I still haven’t master the tools and skills of editing the picture using Photoshop because lack of training and practice. I have installed the Adobe Photoshop CS2 in my laptop during this period in order to edit my pictures and idea in the wallpaper, unfortunately, my considered outdated laptop hardly can support the system of Adobe Photoshop. It happened because the laptop system will showing ‘memory too low’ and the system got jammed every time I tried to open a picture and edit it. As this, I cant able to submit my progress of photoshop editing on time and I only able to sketched out the idea and pictures I will use in the wallpaper.

6 – 11 March 2009
Today (6.3.09), I have to take and borrow my gf’s laptop which has higher capability from her coursemate travelling from JB. I have to borrow from her in order to make my e-wallpaper progress smoothly by using the photoshop through her laptop. During this period, I will start with my photoshop editing asap and upload the progress of it to my blog. I will seek the advice and consultation from my tutor about my 70-80% works and make some amendments and changes on my wallpaper’s design based on the comments.

Finally I hope everything will going smoothly and able to submit a high quality work on time with no obstacle.

Final Project's (website) on "Festivities"

Hi, after some time of searching the information on my part, "Festivities" on the final project of Malaysian Culture and Heritage, I have get some pictures, descriptions, and links for it and I have sent the information to our leader, Ah Teh, on last week. On this festivities, I have listed out some important and significant events that symbolize the must have event in Malaysia as below:
1. Hari Raya Puasa
- The most significant celebration for Muslims, it signifies the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The words ‘Hari Raya’ means day of celebration. It is a joyous occasion for Muslims, as it signifies a personal triumph, a victory of self-restraint and abstinence, symbolising purification and renewal. Urbanites make their annual pilgrimage to their hometowns (this is popularly referred to as balik kampung as picture below), to be with parents, relatives and old friends. Thus, cities in Malaysia get relatively quiet during the festive season of Aidilfitri.

2. Chinese New Year
- A time for family reunions, the lion dance, firecrackers, mahjong, mandarin oranges and giving/collecting ang pow, the Lunar New Year - or Chinese New Year (CNY), as it is more commonly known in Malaysia - highlights some of the most fascinating aspects of Chinese tradition and rituals. Celebrated by the Chinese community, Chinese New Year occurs usually during mid-January to mid-February. The festivities are celebrated for 3 days, but as a whole, last for 15 days.

3. Deepavali

- Celebrated by Hindus as the day the evil Narakasura was slain by Lord Krishna. Signifying the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

4. Hari Gawai Dayak

- Celebrated by the Dayak communities in Sarawak. Celebrated mid year on June 1 and 2, though unofficially, the festivities begin during the last week of May and continue through mid-June. which falls on the 1st of June every year, is a day for all Dayak races in Sarawak to celebrate the end of the harvest season. It is a tradition whereby Dayaks will go back to their own village or “kampung” and celebrate Gawai Day together with their families. The way they celebrated Gawai Day is similar to the way the Sabahan etnics celebrate their own harvest festival: have a big feast at night which will last till the next morning.Every Gawai celebration won’t gonna be perfect without a traditional alcoholic drink called Tuak. Tuak is made of rice that were soaked inside a pale of water together with some herbs to produce alcohol. The soaked rice will then be kept for at least 6 months before the celebration comes. Some may even preserved the Tuak for years since the theory stated that the longer the Tuak being preserved, the nicer it is.

5. Rainforest World Music Festival
- Held in Sarawak Cultural Village. Kuching, Sarawak. Organized on every mid year in conjuction with Gawai Dayak Festival. The Rainforest World Music Festival is a unique festival that brings together on the same stage renowned world musicians from all continents and indigenous musicians from the interiors of the mythical island of Borneo.

Above significant festivities are small portion of our Malaysian's festivities. There are still many festivities i dint listed in here as i will focus on these festivities and the others which havent listed in here yet.

E-Wallpaper (Assignment 1)

It take lots of time for me to think and think again about what kind of idea and theme for my wallpaper which going to submit in 2 weeks time. quite soon ya actually. Last few days when i took out my financial planning book (mandarin version)to continue at where i stopped reading previously. It is a book which given from my mum for me to gain more financial planning's knowledge. As i continued read through some pages again to recall my memory about what i read, i read and notice a good and inspirational phrase which i believe it is suitable for my theme with the inspirational phrase which stated in mandarin "每一件成功的事都是从第一步踏出去开始的" which means "Every successful person, things, events are start from the First step you take". So i want to take this phrase as my theme by modify it some of its contents and plan to put teenagers' steps or legs as the picture on my wallpaper to symbolize they are at the borderline in making important decision which will decide how their future be and then if they take the first step by stepping into MMU to seek for their tertiary education, it will make a difference by becoming a highly competitive graduate equipped with soft and technical skills. For this 'highly competitive graduate' part, i will use the pictures of young professional people with their specific professional careers such as accountant, manager, financial planner... who are wearing smart and formal wear to symbolize their successes. these are some of my ideas in from my mind at the moment, haven't figure out the background colour and whether i should put mmu building picture in it and how to put in it to make it balance and not messy and of course need to look attractive at the same time. hehe. still thinking about it....have to watch the lesson clips and practise the photoshop consistently which is quite challenging to me. jia you to me and to everyone!

Digital Media 1
